The difference from standard parabolic mirrors is that off-axis parabolic metal film mirrors can direct and focus incident parallel light at specific angles, and support infinite focal points. These mirrors are commonly used as parallel light tubes in Schlieren and MTF systems, while gold-plated off-axis parabolic mirrors are used in FLIR testing systems.
